Wide angle close up photography (Definition,Image bank,Straight images)

Wide angle definition-

A wide-angle lens refers to a lens whose focal length is substantially smaller than the focal length of a normal lens for a given film plane. This type of lens allows more of the scene to be included in the photograph, which is useful in architectural, interior and landscape photography where the photographer may not be able to move farther from the scene to photograph it.

Another use is where the photographer wishes to emphasise the difference in size or distance between objects in the foreground and the background; nearby objects appear very large and objects at a moderate distance appear small and far away. This exaggeration of relative size can be used to make foreground objects more prominent, while capturing expansive backgrounds.

By getting close up using a wide angle lens you can make the background smaller and this helps to make the subject stand out more. A wide angle lens allows you to make a feature and highlight the subject and also to show where it lives within an environment. By not showing it isolated from its surroundings you can capture the natural environment that normally surrounds it and in this way ground the subject in the real world. You can both capture the object up close as well as a background in the distance as well and they are both in focus. This is because wide angle lets you maintain the focus with a much deeper depth of filed at all f-stops.

Image Bank-

I choose this photo of the dog because I thought it was one of the most suitable photos to represent wide angle close up photography because its so close to the dogs nose that it looks like the nose is going to touch the lens and the wide angle is so curved in the photograph that you can clearly see how its had an effect on the dog which is making it appear curbed and a lot larger than it is, as you can se by the bod of the dog. Also I like the effect that the wide angle has given the tress by curving them inwards, so the photo kind of reminds me of a snow globe, especially as there's actual snow on the ground. The colour of the photo also goes with the nature of the dog, as dogs are generally happy and playful the colours in this are very bright and vibrant, giving off a happy feeling alongside the dog.

This photo is a bit different to the other photos, because this one is looking down onto the subjects of the photo, where as the other photos are from the same level as the objects and the whole main object in those photos are right in front of the lens. Where as, with this photo the close u is to the leaf right at the start but the rest of the photo appears to be far away but that could be because of the wide angle distorting it. However, the leaf that's the close up could be seen as being using as a lead up to show the audience the waterfall, as its exactly in line with the waterfall so its almost like its pointing towards it. Overall I really like the colours in this photo and the tones as there's quite a few dark tones because its cliff edges so there's shadows that are being casted. I also like how everything appears to be damp, which again indicates to the waterfall again because the dampness would be caused by the splash and condensation from the waterfall.

This photo of a seal sitting on a beach was chosen because I like how the photo was taken from the floor level, obviously to try and achieve a close up wide angle shoot, which I don't think was executed as well as the other photos. In this photo there's the lose up of the seal which allows you to see some details like the fur, but I don't think that its close enough for the best detail of the seal. Also you can see that the sky is slightly curved but n way near as much as the previous photos , but it is harder to see the wide angle too because apart from the seal there's no other objects allowing you to see the curve in them, So to improve this photo I would have just of tried to get a better wide angle, perhaps but using a different lens.
